I was approached with a new proposition, which was to redesign a logo which morphed into redesining a website. The website of Volunteer Corps Nepal was quite a basic site at that point and hadn't updated itself to modern expectations. A redesign from the ground up was required.
Now this was the first time I had embarked on any sort of designing any website or the UI/UX involved. I hadn't even touched Figma till then though it had always been in the corner of my eye. And what a great discovery it was! I love Figma! I would use this app for every sort of design work if I could. Alas! It lacks features for print and can't really replace Photoshop and Illustrator yet. And also Adobe owns it now. We live in the worst timeline.
Well anyways, this was a figure it as you go type of project (honestly every project is!) and I realized quite quick that a design system was necessary for consistency. As I worked on the pages, the design system started forming and updating till it settled on the behemoth below. Truth be told it still doesn't cover everything.
The most important page of any website is its homepage. It sets the framework for the whole website, how it will look, how it will function. After many iterations and discussions, throwing stuff on the wall and seeing what sticks, gaining clarity on the overall objectives, the homepage was finally finalized.
While the homepage dictated what the website would be now we had to make the rest of the pages which was not an easy feat. It was quite a lot of work and the inner pages did also influenced the homepage as the homepage did the inner pages.
So I did complete it one way or the other and I had seen the prototype capabilites of Figma and was itching to figure out what or how it worked. A prototype would really help see how the website would function and how the design would gel. This was quite a fun rabbit hole to dive into. If I wasn't already sold on the capabilities of Figma, I was then after seeing the sheer power of its prototyping prowess. Now I know, there's some crazy prototypes that people have made in Figma all over the internet but for a guy who had just started this was quite insane when you look over the prototype diagram below.
So designing this website took somewhat two months+ of hard work. I think we made something to be proud of. You can check it out using the link below:-
